Artist research: Henry takemoto

Henry Takemoto (1930 -2015) was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He recieved is Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Hawaii. In the 1950s he traveled to California to attend the Ottis art Institute. There he studied under Pete Voulkos.

I am compelled by Takemoto's work because of the calligraphy technique he used when applying his glaze. I, also, really enjoy blue that he adds in with each peice! IT tises it in with traditional East Asian ceramics once again.

I am very excited to begin my first glazing, with his work in mind. I love the idea of using organic, abstracted  forms. A lot of his forms remind me of fauna and nature!
